Hi, I’m Emma 👋

Primary Teacher turned Private Tutor

I spent five wonderful years as a Year 4 teacher, where I fell in love with those magical moments when a child’s face lights up because something finally makes sense. But I also noticed something that bothered me: in a class of 30, some children simply needed more time and attention than I could give them.

That’s when I decided to make a change. I became a private tutor so I could give every child the one-to-one attention they deserve—the kind of focused, patient support that just isn’t possible in a busy classroom.

“Every child learns differently, and that’s not just okay—it’s wonderful.”

I’ve worked with hundreds of children aged 5–11, and what I’ve learned is that young learners don’t need pressure—they need playfulness, patience, and someone who genuinely believes in them.

Whether your child needs help building reading confidence, preparing for the 11+, or just keeping up with their class, I create a safe, encouraging space where mistakes are part of the adventure and every small win gets celebrated.

What I Believe

What Guides My Teaching

The principles behind every session I teach.

🏡

Safety First

Learning should never feel scary. I create a warm, encouraging space where children feel safe to try, fail, and try again.

🎮

Play-Based Learning

The best lessons don’t feel like lessons. I use games, stories, and hands-on activities to make learning stick.

🌟

Every Child Can Succeed

I’ve never met a child who “just can’t do it.” They just haven’t found the right approach yet—and that’s where I come in.

🎯

Progress Over Perfection

Small wins matter. I celebrate every step forward, no matter how tiny it might seem.

🤝

Partnership with Parents

You know your child best. I work with you to create a support plan that truly fits your family.

✨

Curiosity is Key

When children are curious, learning happens naturally. I nurture that spark of wonder in every session.

My Approach

My Teaching Approach

How I make learning work for every child.

Start Where They Are

I never assume what a child knows. Every session begins by understanding exactly where they are right now, then building from that foundation. No judgment, no rushing.

Make It Multi-Sensory

Children learn through seeing, hearing, touching, and doing. I use manipulatives, movement, storytelling, and visual aids to help concepts stick.

Connect to Their World

I connect maths to cooking, reading to their favourite shows, and writing to topics they actually care about. When children see the “why,” engagement follows naturally.

Build Independence

My goal isn’t to create dependency—it’s to help children become confident, independent learners. I scaffold support carefully, gradually releasing responsibility.

Celebrate the Process

I praise effort, not just results. “You kept trying even when it was hard”—that’s what I want children to hear. Resilience matters more than perfection.
